Reba: The Complete First Season gathers all 22 episodes of the popular WB sitcom's 2001 debut, an unusual and likable comedy about a family meltdown that results, over time, in stronger ties between principal characters. The pilot episode's opening scene puts it all on the table: A court-mandated, family therapy session in which one learns that Reba Hart (Reba McEntire) and estranged husband Brock (Christopher Hart) have broken up after 20 years of marriage, Brock's mistress Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman) is pregnant, and the Harts' 17-year-old daughter, Cheyenne (Joanna Garcia), and her high school football hero boyfriend, Van (Steve Howey), are also expecting. From these overlapping disaster come many fireworks, but Reba is really about the gradual reinvention of the Harts and the qualities of mercy, understanding, and rebuilt faith.

At the center of everything is Reba, who put Brock through dental school, had a trio of kids with him, then loses him, inexplicably, to sweet but simple-minded Barbra Jean, a hygienist. Yet he isn't really gone: Brock's emotional ties to Reba remain powerful, and he is often full of regret over whatever is driving him away. More challenging is Barbra Jean's needful attachment to Reba, which gets particularly difficult when the former keeps turning up at sensitive times, such as a visit from Reba's parents (Barry Corbin, Dorothy Lyman) and during Cheyenne's Lamaze classes. While coping with her own divorce, Reba keeps busy helping Cheyenne and Van set up their lives as newlyweds, a tricky business since both are still in high school and so many people--the principal, Van's parents, Reba's neighbors--disapprove and assume the worst about the Harts' morals. Still, every episode ends with the feeling that everything is going to be okay in Reba's world, even if she has no idea where so much change is taking her. Country superstar McEntire proves a very capable and attractive comic lead, and the rest of the cast, including Mitch Holleman and Scarlett Pomers as Reba's youngest kids, are caught up in Reba's appealing chaos. --Tom Keogh

Reba McEntire plays divorced mother of three
This is very popular sitcom on WB network that stars country crooner Reba McEntire as divorced mother of three. The network made a bold move to air this sitcom that stars Reba McEntire her debut on a TV show, and the gamble paid off. It is a very successful show on the network and very popular among young and old.

There are 22 episodes of the first season on three discs. At the center of the show is Reba who balances her single life with three kids; the eldest being married to her high school sweetheart and her some what challenging younger daughter Kyra and her only son Jake. In one episode we learn that Reba Hart and husband Brock have broken up, Brock's mistress (in a later episode she becomes his wife) Barbra Jean, and Reba's eldest daughter Cheyenne are pregnant. The story revolves around the family of Reba and how she solves the problems of life in funny and humorous way. The emotional attachment of her ex husband Brock to Reba is strong, and this is evident in several episodes. He frequently visits her for advice about his little worries and frustrations in his life. His new wife Barbara Jean also seeks emotional support from Reba in her needs, yet at the some time annoys her whenever she can. While coping with her own divorce, Reba keeps busy helping Cheyenne and her husband Van set up their lives as newlyweds. There are several episodes in the first season which turn out be the best of the series. Reba McEntire does a wonderful job in the number one spot.

Divorce, marriage and family
Family is the focus of most sitcoms, but few have the weirdness level of "Reba." But then, few suburban families have quite the chaos level that Reba's family does. A look at young marriage, impending divorce, reentering the singles life and "other women," this is a surprisingly funny and touching show.

Reba Hart (Reba McEntire) and her husband Brock (Christopher Rich) are separated due to his midlife crisis. But Reba receives a nasty shock when Brock announces that he's going to divorce her and marry his perky, dizzy assistant, Barbara Jean (Melissa Peterman) -- because she's pregnant. Even worse, Reba finds out that her daughter Cheyenne (Joanna Garcia) is also pregnant by hunky football-star boyfriend Van (Steve Howey).

Things don't get much better after Brock moves out, and Van and Cheyenne get married. The newlyweds struggle with slimy in-laws and unforgiving schools, bare bottoms and morning sickness. And Reba has to deal with her disintegrating family, dumb blonde Barbara Jean, sullen teenager Kyra (Scarlett Pomers), wedding hysteria, and the daunting idea of dating new men after twenty years of marriage.

The "ordinary" family is only present in bits and pieces in "Reba" -- we have the young newlyweds, the son-in-law, the nasty in-laws, the former wife, the new wife, the half-siblings, the grandkid, and the cheating husband. But in a time with high divorce rates, it seems to reflect the trials and tribulations of a family divided and patched together by divorce and family ties.

Like all sitcoms, it takes weird situations and runs with them, like Cheyenne going into labor during graduation, or Reba accidently sewing her pants to Barbara Jean's wedding dress. It has quite a bit of physical and verbal humor; nothing too special, but quite funny anyhow.

Reba McEntire makes this sitcom, with her flexible face and slightly wild physical humor, and is backed up in that by Peterman's wonderfully overdone Barbara Jean. Garcia and Howey have excellent chemistry as the ideal students-turned-teen-parents, and Rich is alternately slimy and endearing as Reba's semi-repentent ex.

With its non-traditional family theme and McEntire's funny/heartwarming performances, "Reba" becomes a bit more than your average sitcom. And the first season is definitely worth checking out.

Reba In An Amazing New Light!
Reba McEntire never ceases to amaze me.

I am proud to say that I am a new fan. I listened to my first Reba CD over the summer (Room to Breathe) in response to how much I loved watching this show on the WB (at that time, season 3.) So, I missed the first and second seasons, so was obviously thrilled when this came out.

I'm not going to waste your time by rehashing the concept of this show, because the editor's comments and other reviews will tell you that. But just trust me when I tell you that this show is full of humor and heart. You will fall in love with all of the main characters, not just Reba.

Each character is unique and adds something special to the mix. They have such chemistry with each other, and make watching this show a truly enjoyable experience.

I truly enjoyed season 1 of REBA....so what if you aren't a regular fan of the show now? This is an incredible way to start! I can't think of a single bad thing to say about this. Now, go out and buy this DVD and find out for yourself. I give you my personal guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
